It can, particularly if you combine Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes with a healthy diet and lifestyle. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu provides a great, full-body workout that burns calories, builds muscles, and boosts the metabolism.

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students to wear a rashguard (athletic shirt).  Gi’s and Rashguards are available for purchase at our Academy.

Live training is a crucial component to the overall success and effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  However, sparring is only one component of live training, and Beginner students follow an arc of positional live training at the start, moving towards regular sparring as they learn techniques and safe training.  Eventually all students are heavily encouraged to spar in training due to the effectiveness of live training when it comes to the benefits of BJJ that many people seek out.
